What Are “X” and “O” Options on Sliding Patio Doors?

“X” and “O” designations refer to the movable (operable) and fixed (non-operable) panels of the patio door.

  • “X” is the operable (movable) panel that slides open and closed.
  • “O” is the fixed (non-movable) panel that remains stationary.

An XO door slides on the left with a fixed right; an OX is the reverse; and an XOX has a fixed center with both sides sliding. Your configuration depends on room layout, traffic flow, and accessibility.

How to place an order based on X and O options

1. Determine the desired configuration

Decide if you need a single slider (XO or OX) or a three-panel slider (XOX). Consider which side you want to open for traffic flow and ventilation.

2. Provide exterior orientation

Always describe the X and O orientation as viewed from the outside. For example, XO means the left panel slides and the right panel is fixed.

3. Specify frame size and direction

Provide the dimensions of the door and confirm whether it’s a left-hand or right-hand slider based on the X/O configuration.

4. Confirm glass and frame options

Select your glass type (e.g., Low-E, tempered) and frame color/finish to match your home’s design. Specify any customization like screens or grille patterns.

Example order request: Configuration XO · Dimensions 118”W x 86”H · Glass Low-E, double-pane · Frame White Vinyl · Full screen included.

Sliding Door Tips & Advice

Consider the opening size and traffic flow

Sliding patio doors come in 2-, 3-, or 4-panel configurations to fit wide openings. Choose a layout that supports your home’s traffic patterns, entertaining needs, and furniture placement.

Prioritize energy efficiency

With large glass areas, the right glass matters. Look for LoE-366® insulated glass, argon-filled panes, and NFRC-certified performance to maintain comfort, reduce UV damage, and lower energy bills.

Choose durable, low-maintenance materials

Vinyl frames resist warping, cracking, and fading, requiring minimal upkeep even after years of sun and weather exposure.

Think about security & safety

As an access point to your home, choose doors with multi-point locking systems, reinforced frames, and tempered safety glass for peace of mind.

The Art of Vinyl Door Manufacturing

Craftsmanship That Glides

A patio door is the largest moving part in your home—ours are built to open effortlessly and seal completely.

Heavy-Duty Vinyl Frames

We start with premium American vinyl, extruded into reinforced multi-chamber profiles engineered to carry large glass panels and roll smoothly for decades. Every profile is inspected by hand for wall thickness, straightness, and finish before it ever becomes a door.

Built to Your Opening

Each door is fabricated and squared to your exact rough opening for true, tight-rolling operation.

Fusion-Welded Strength

Heat-welded corners and hand-finished joints create a rigid, water-tight frame built for daily use.

Sealed & Energy-Efficient

Dual- or triple-pane Low-E glass and precision weatherstripping keep your home quiet, comfortable, and draft-free.
